Volunteer Coordinator Job Description 

 

Basic Function: 

Habitat for Humanity-Fluvanna County is an independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, is an affordable, ecumenical Christian housing ministry located in Palmyra, VA.  The Volunteer Coordinator provides for the recruiting, retention, training, scheduling and recognition of volunteers for Fluvanna Habitat. 

The position is 10-15 hours, as needed, no benefits. Some weekend hours will be necessary.  The salary is dependent on qualifications and experience. 

 

Reports to: Executive Director 

 

Responsibilities and Duties 

The volunteer coordinator will be responsible to either perform the following duties or ensure that they are accomplished by appropriate volunteers: 

  • Recruit and coordinate volunteers. 
  • Contact volunteers for construction, development, administration and special activities. 
  • Coordinate volunteer needs of staff and committees 
  • Provide orientation sessions for volunteers (individual and/or group) 
  • Meet with construction supervisor and home repair chair as needed to plan volunteers needs over construction period. 
  • Actively recruit new volunteers 
  • Follow up with each volunteer applicant 
  • Enhance and implement volunteer recognition and retention program. 
  • Utilize Volgistics online volunteer management software.   
  • Promptly and properly thank all groups and volunteers throughout the year. 

 

The volunteer Coordinator will work closely with current/potential donors and volunteers cultivating the relationship.  They will also work with the Faith Relations committee to enhance our relationships with the 60+ churches in Fluvanna County.  This may require attendance at various church services to share the Habitat mission and get volunteers signed up. 

 

Skills and Personal Characteristics: 

Experience in coordinating in a volunteer environment; strong communication and interpersonal skills, including excellent verbal and writing skills; energetic, well organized, extroverted, and detail-oriented; team-player; strong proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook; experienced in data base management and social media. 

 

Applicant must be a patient teacher with strong delegation skills; comfortable in a faith-based environment; flexibility to work on Saturdays and some Sundays; and a passion for Habitats mission.
