Fluvanna County Habitat for Humanity is always looking for people interested in getting involved. There are many ways that you can contribute to the efforts of Habitat whether you are an individual, a business, a church, or a youth group. Monetary donations are not the only way that you can help. You can also help by donating some of your time. Volunteer opportunities include, committees, construction or administrative. You can even donate land you own in Fluvanna County.
Who can help?
Individuals like you
Habitat is always looking for help from people like you. Fill out an online volunteer application by clicking the red “volunteer info” button, then the link to the application. You can also email office@fluvannahabitat.org our Volunteer Coordinator for more information.
Businesses involved in the community
Businesses can help with donations of money or service. We also encourage businesses to bring a group out to the build site for a team building day! Sponsorship opportunities are available for our Golf Tournament each year.
Local Churches
Churches can help by promoting our activities, donations of money and assistance with workgroups.
Youth Groups
Youth groups can help with fundraising, certain work days that do not involve power tools or high ladders (such as painting and landscaping days), or providing lunches for volunteers.
What do we need?
Time
If you have some time to spare (even just an hour or so) there is work to be done.
Some typical examples:
- Providing lunches for site workers
- Committee Work
- Construction Work
- Landscaping
- Painting
- Administrative help in the office
Money
We always need money to buy land, building materials, and some subcontracted services. There are other ways you can contribute money to Habitat as well, such as:
- Donations of $500 or more may be eligible for a $325 state tax credit through the Neighborhood Assistance Program. Contact us for more information. **We have NO more NAP credits for 2018-2019. NAP credits are distributed in July each year.**
- Donations of cash or stocks/bonds may be tax deductible
- Legacies or wills
- Donation of services – legal, accounting, printing/copying, construction (including utilities), site clearance, landscaping, block work, roofing, drywall etc.
Materials
Due to limited storage space we cannot accept surplus building materials and household goods ourselves, but we would refer you to the Charlottesville Habitat Store. They do accept most surplus building materials and appliances for storage and resale, the funds going to support Habitat activities. We may accept donations of tools and building equipment to meet our requirements.
Land
We regularly need land for building in Fluvanna County. If you have land, or know someone who has building land available, please call 434-589-3752 or e-mail us at office@fluvannahabitat.org
